When on our Trips we are walking or driving over land located on Turtle Island, the traditional home to the First Nations people of Ontario.

At The Pipits, we acknowledge that this land is sacred, and has significant meaning to all First Nations people.

In honour of the Dish with One Spoon Wampum Covenant, we agree that we have a responsibility to protect and care for this land. Travel gently upon it.

COMING SOON...

Sometimes I put a list of upcoming outings here while I work in the background to develop trip descriptions... I put them here so you can plan ahead to join Pipit trips... if you don't see a list here it just means I haven't gotten any new trips planned but don't worry, I will.

Please note some trips might be better done as a stay over event... such as the February Algonquin and Amherst Island trips!

BEFORE REGISTERING FOR AN EVENT, PLEASE REVIEW THE PIPIT'S POLICIES.

Saltfleet Conservation Area, 444 First Rd E, Stoney Creek, ON L8J 2X9, Canada
Come join Bob Curry as we explore the recently developed Saltfleet Conservation Area! Vinemount Sanctuary is one of my favorite spring locations, early migrants such as Meadowlarks show up here well before the warblers come in. We'll also go look for shorebirds at nearby flooded fields.
  • Sun, Apr 27
    Apr 27, 2025, 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Kerncliff Park, 2198 Kerns Rd, Burlington, ON L7P 1P8, Canada
This Sunday we will be birding in the Burlington Kerncliff Park. We will take the boardwalk through the marsh, after this, we will head into the forest, and up the hill to the top. We will be looking for early spring migrants. We will meet in the parking lot at Kerncliff Park, at 8am.
  • Sat, May 10
    Rondeau Provincial Park
    May 10, 2025, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Rondeau Provincial Park, 18050 Rondeau Park Road, Rondeau Park, ON N0P 1X0, Canada
This is the first day of our two day trip to Rondeau and Point Pelee. Rondeau during early spring migration is said to be comparable to Point Pelee for birding! Come and see!
  • Sun, May 11
    May 11, 2025, 5:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Point Pelee PP, 1118 Point Pelee Dr, Municipality Of Leamington, ON N8H 3V4, Canada
Point Pelee during Spring Migration is an experience not to be missed! Birds fly long distances, over the huge body of lake water, and arrive exhausted at Point Pelee to rest and feed before continuing their journey to their northern breeding grounds. It can be absolutely overwhelming. Come see!
  • Sun, May 25
    May 25, 2025, 5:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Carden Alvar, Kawartha Lakes, ON K0M 2B0, Canada
Carden Alvar is a magical place where the landscape defines what birds and animals can be found. It is excellent for a number of species that can be difficult to find, including Upland Sandpiper, Wilson's Snipe, Loggerhead Shrike, Grasshopper Sparrow, among others.
  • Jun 14, 2025, 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Grimsby Wetlands, 624 Winston Rd, Grimsby, ON L3M 4E8, Canada
This SUNDAY we will visit Grimsby Wetlands and see what we may see. Sora, Virginia Rail, and Gallinule have nested here. If time remains, we will also visit the nearby 40 Mile Creek conservation area.
  • Sun, Jul 27
    Jul 27, 2025, 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Currie Tract, Halton Region Forest, 9475 Guelph Line, Milton, ON L0P 1B0, Canada
This location is notable for a variety of habitats, including mature forest, scrubby open areas along the power line cut, and some wet areas where I've seen Northern Waterthrush. We could see Golden Winged, Blue Winged, Chestnut Sided Warblers among other warblers and songbirds.
  • Aug 17, 2025, 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Park off of Martin Road, 385 Jerseyville Rd W, Ancaster, ON L9G 5C3, Canada
Martin Road is a lovely walk through forest and around a wetland. Blue-winged Warblers breed here, and I've seen a number of warbler species here as well. Note there is a large hill to walk down from the parking into the valley. The trail is fairly flat besides this hill.

The Pipits

The goal of The Pipits is to increase awareness of the natural world, in particular, birds, but also all other wild organisms; in a safe and inclusive social setting where we connect with each other through our mutual appreciation of the wild.
